Krita is primarily designed for digital drawing, but it can also serve as an image editor or vector graphics tool. Originally developed for Linux as part of KDE and featured in Calligra Suite, Krita now boasts a version for the Mac environment with the same comprehensive features. The user interface is influenced by Adobe products and Corel digital drawing tools, making it easy for Photoshop users to adapt. Krita offers a wide range of brush types and effects, layer functionality, support for major image formats, palettes, cropping, vector manipulation, and various retouching tools. Its standout feature, however, is its status as an open source application under the GNU license. This makes it an excellent alternative to Gimp, the most popular open source image editor available.
